I have one friend and one friend only who really enjoys cleaning her kitchen. Me? No way, cleaning the kitchen is one of the things I dread the most! I am one of those people who like to make their life easier, so I asked my friend what she does to clean her kitchen and “enjoy” the process. Here are some of the tips I got after talking with her:
First of all, she keeps their cabinets categorized. For example: if you have three drawers in your kitchen then use one for baking tools, another one for silverware, and a different one for cutting boards and knives. You are in charge! The top drawer gets whatever you use the most; therefore it will be easier for you to put them away when cleaning.
2. Meal Prep:
What does getting everything dirty has to do with tricks for cleaning your kitchen? In my opinion, it has everything to do with! If you schedule time on Sunday to prep for the week´s meals, you will find it way more relaxed during the week to clean your kitchen, why? Well, you will not have to clean all the cutting boards and knives and throw away all of the food scraps every day but only once a week.
Even if you own a dishwasher or not, if you rinse everything as soon as you´re using it I can guarantee you either loading the dishwasher or hand washing your dishes will be a much more comfortable task (this trick I have actually been applying myself for a while now).
4. Clean as You Cook:
Don´t let everything pile up, just watching a vast collection of dishes or a big mess around the kitchen makes me shiver! So then again another tip from my super organized friend. Clean as soon as you finish doing one activity. If you´re preparing a three-course meal, don´t wait until all three courses are done, clean the mess of each one as soon as you finish making it.
5. Baking Soda and Vinegar Are Your Friends:
This combination does more than just unclogging your drains; they are also great to obtain fantastic cleaning effects. It helps you clean stainless steel; countertops (tile), refresh your refrigerator (it removes terrible odors too), when boiled on a burnt pan it softens the burnt for more natural cleaning, and the best part of it – it is not toxic! It can even be used to clean your coffeemaker.
6. Unclutter Your Countertops:
One thing that makes your kitchen look messy is having a lot of stuff on the countertops, having a lot of free spaces makes everything look pristine. Assign a place for everything under the countertops, leave only the appliances that you use on a daily basis on top and arrange them in a way that they look organized.
7. Do All of Your Measurement Over the Sink:
Let’s be honest, measuring sometimes gets things to be spilled all over the place; so why don´t you do all the measuring over the sink and rinse it as soon as you´re done measuring?
8. Wipe Stove Every Time You Use It:
Wiping your stove as soon as you spill something will prevent things like grease to dry up on the stove, etc. If they´re not dry, they will surely be easier to clean.
